Description

This project aims to provide children in four low-income communities in Rio de Janeiro with sustained exposure to art and other cultural activities. The goal is to provide opportunities for cultural enrichment available in the communities in which the children live in.

Supported by a long lasting partnership between people and institutions from four low-income communities in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro – Mangueira de Botafogo, Santa Marta, Horto e Rocinha. The project began in November 2002.

	Newsweek's article "Slave Songs in Brazil", explores the Federal Government Project Ação Griô which CIESPI participates through the Project Play and Learn Community Network
	Childwatch International receives, until September 30th, abstracts of case studies on the role of research in child focused policy development
	Call for applications for the 2009-2010 cycle of the Master of Advanced Studies in Children’s Rights (MCR), Switzerland. Deadline for applications is September 15th, 2008.
	Professor Irene Rizzini receives life-time achievement award from Guggenheim Foundation

CIESPI is a research and reference center dedicated to research and on-the-ground projects about children and youth, and their families and comnunities. Its goal is to inform policy and practice for this population thereby contributing to the implementation of children´s rights and promoting their full development.
